Magic Wood

1999, a group of climbers, among them Thomas Steinbrugger and Bernd Zangerl, started the laborious cleaning of the greenish gneiss blocks situated near Ausserferrera. They called the primeval forest, which was heavily blocked, “Magic Wood”. Due to the huge accumulation of 8th degree boulders and rocks it seems like they were created just for bouldering, Magic Wood quickly became one of THE international boulder hot spots and is now well-known beyond the Alpine region.
