Owey Island

Northern Ireland,

Owey is a small uninhabitable island that lies just 500m off the northwest tip of Cruit Island. Over the years many routes in the low to mid grades have been climbed but recent development has concentrated on the bigger cliffs on the northwest of the island. These cliffs, which are up to 80m tall, offer some of the most impressive climbing terrain in Ireland with striking cracks and immense overhangs. The island is well worth a visit if you are looking for adventure and there is plenty of scope for new routes, of all grades. An 80m abseil rope is required to access the routes listed here. It’s possible to camp on the island, the best spot is near the harbour.
