Donegal

Northern Ireland,

Sportclimbing: Donegal is a vast county, it takes over three hours to drive from the northern tip to the southwest corner and there is a huge amount of climbing, nearly 3000 routes, in a range of settings and on over a half dozen rock types. In the southwest there is accessible single-pitch routes at Malin Beg and Muckros Head and more serious adventure climbing on Sail Rock and Cnoc na Mara. Further up the coast the islands of Gola, Owey and Cruit offer excellent sea cliff climbing in an idyllic setting. Inland the granite mountain crags of Lough Belshade and Lough Barra have some superb multi-pitch routes. In the northwest Inishowen has a large selection of crags with plenty of routes in the mid to low grades. Bouldering: Donegal is a large county, it takes over three hours to drive from Malin Beg in the south west to Rubinoid Point in the north east. There are two concentrations of areas in Donegal, the first in the west (Burtonport, Mulllaghdoo, Carrickfinn, Crolly), the second on the Inishowen Peninsula (Fanad, Dunaff, Doagh, Rubonid).
