Rocklands

Western Cape, ZA

Rocklands used to be the most popular sport climbing area in the Cederberg until the bouldering scene exploded here, and also because other really good areas were discovered and developed. It still hosts some of the best routes in the Cederberg, however, and the setting is straight out of a Wild West movie set; a beautiful place with some awesome steep climbing. As Rocklands is a very high impact area due to the many international and local boulderers visiting the area every year, access is strictly controlled by a permit system unique to Rocklands. It was specifically devised for the boulderers, but as the sport climbing falls within the same area, it applies to sport climbing too. The permit guarantees entry to all areas in Rocklands for the validity duration, including CapeNature, De Pakhuys and Traveller’s Rest. All climbers and boulderers visiting Rocklands must be in possession of this permit to climb on any land and must carry this permit with them at all times. Permits can be booked online at http://www.quicket.co.za/events/4582-rocklands-bouldering-permit/, or from De Pakhuys office and campsite, CapeNature’s Kliphuis, Clanwilliam Tourism Office and the shop at Traveller’s Rest. CapeNature and the landowners reserve the right to deny access or to evict guests who do not adhere to the rules and regulations of CapeNature and landowners and/or its reserves. Money paid for these bookings will be forfeited. These rules include, but are not limited to the following: • Visitors are to have their permit with them upon entrance to the reserve. • No pets allowed on reserves; the only exception will be guide dogs for the blind. • No collection of rocks, removing, damaging or disturbing of fauna or flora. • No rowdy or unwanted behaviour. • Stick to the marked walking trails. • No pof or resin allowed. • Carry out what you carry in.
