Oorlogs Kloof

Western Cape, ZA

Oorlogs Kloof lies 18 kilometres out of Montagu along the R318. It is a stunningly beautiful kloof with a selection of good routes including Wildcard, one of the best in its grade in the Western Cape. Relatively quiet compared to most of the other areas in Montagu, with plenty potential for new routes of all grades available for the taking. Le Pique-nique Sector: A sector for all, offering easy slabby routes, moderate vertical routes and hard and uber-hard steep routes, including some of the hardest routes in the country. A good choice for a hot summer’s day, with most of the routes staying in the shade all day. Seamster Wall: This newly developed crag is situated high up the hill to the right of Snark Buttress, approximately halfway between Snark and the obvious shield at the top of the ridge, and is recognisable by its distinct cricket bat shape. Snark Buttress: A good winter crag, getting sun for most of the day. Vertically steep with some powerful climbing. Cuts Both Ways and Cowboy Sectors: Steep climbing a little way up Oorlogs Kloof. The routes are very seldom (if ever) done. The Tower of Babel: A distant crag with some good routes. Quite an adventurous approach. Wildcard Buttress: A beautiful golden crag, with one of the best 24/7a’s in the country. A must-do for anyone climbing this grade. It is also the home to the infamous L’Abraxas, with only two ascents in 25 years. Meatloaf Wall: One lone route! Canasta Buttress: Short powerful routes, which are tough for their grade. Buttock Buttress: A pleasant crag with two short routes.
