Gordon’s Rock

Western Cape, ZA

Gordon’s Rock, although smaller than Bretagne has, on the whole, probably the best selection of routes in the whole park. It is home to Belly Button Slab, which is great for beginners to learn the art of slab climbing. It also has a clutch of superb multi-pitch routes on its south face, including the impeccable Sands of Time (18/6a), one of SA’s best granite routes of its grade. And around the back stand the great test pieces of Blue Diamonds and White Ice (28/7c) and Stem Gem (22/6c), both trad routes that have dished out many spankings over the years, and right next door is Paarl’s hardest route – Shaka (32/8b).
