Bitschji / Brig (plaisir)

Wallis, CH

The “Mountain Of Naters” rises up directly behind Naters, the largest village in the Valais. The area is rich in natural and cultural treasures. Old historical paths, dry stacked stone walls, remote chapels, and still occupied ancient houses dot the hills. Within this landscape are some beautiful climbing areas with the typical reddish brown grippy gneiss. Almost all climbs are accessible by public transportation. With the NEAT Tunnel, you can even make day climb-ing trips from the Bernese side. Summer can be hot, so be careful not to cause forest fires in these dry areas. With the exception of the “Bitschji”, one can find favorable climbing conditions even in winter. Erschliesser Beat Ruppen, Rudi Amherd, Mario und Adrian Trapletti, A. Ricci, Ken Mc Mahon, Peter Schwitter, Raoul Bayard, Roland Kernen, Eric Pointner, J. Bilgischer, Raphi Imsand, Amadeo Rüedi u.a.
