San Paolo

Trentino, IT

The big and well-known crag of San Paolo owes its popularity mainly to the numerous multi-pitch routes, which have been bolted by Heinz Grill, a German alpinist and author. In the eighties, San Paolo was the playground of Heinz Mariacher, Maurizio “Manolo” Zanolla, Luisa Iovane and the young Roberto Bassi. The routes of the different sectors offer very varied climbing and different degrees of difficulty. In the very right part of the sector “Promontorio di Kroz” you find the route “Elephant Baby”. It is the first 8a - despite chipped holds - of the Sarca Valley and was first climbed by Rolando Larcher in 1986.
