Mad Wall / Panagia

Peloponnese, GR

__Panagia__ is an extended crag east of Leonidio, at the foot of Mount Galiora, and it includes four sub-sectors, each with its own character: Panagia Cave; Mad Wall; Piccolo Muro; and Yellow Wall. Even though the cliffs are in the sun all day and the walk-in is rather long, Panagia is quite a popular sector. The quality of the sector is further complemented by gorgeous views over the fertile valley below—a valley providing all the fresh fruits and vegetables that the area is so renowned for. __Climbing__ On the left, a long wall with slabby routes at the bottom and a big yellow overhang with tufas and stalactites (Panagia Cave). In the middle, a grey wall (Mad Wall), and its satellite, a clean grey slab (Piccolo Muro). And if you move further to the right, a very interesting wall featuring long routes and varied climbing (Yellow Wall). All routes at sector Panagia were equipped by the Remy Brothers and Christophe Simeon in 2013/14, unless otherwise noted. __Gear__ A single 80m rope + 18 QDs for the long routes (40m). __Conditions__ Hot. Best for climbing on cold winter days, or on cloudy days in spring and fall. __Shade (Exposure: S)__ Never. The cliff bakes in the sun all day (except sub-sector Piccolo Muro, which gets a bit of shade in the early morning, until about 10:00). __Kids__ Not very good. The approach is long and hard, and the terrain beneath the cliffs is not great, either.
