Neanderthal

Peloponnese, GR

__Neanderthal__ is a new, tough sector in an idyllic setting high up in the mountains. It is on the road to Palaiochori village, above a quiet ravine far from noise, people, and other signs of human presence. __Climbing__ On a cave on the left with relatively short routes which stay in the shade all day, and on longer routes on an overhanging stretch of wall, which is where most routes are. There are 21 short (10–20m) and steep routes from 6c–8c on tufas and compact walls of excellent quality. The majority of grades is within the 7b–8b range. All routes were well-cleaned and equipped in 2019 by Simon Montmory. __Gear__ A single 60m rope + 15 QDs. __Conditions__ At 750m altitude, it’s a good crag for warm days. __Shade (Exposure: SW)__ Until 12:00 (right), or 14:30 (middle); or 17:30 (left). __Kids__ OK, but the walk-in is long.
