Africa

Peloponnese, GR

Africa is an almost roadside crag with vertical or slightly off-vertical dark and orange rock with some impressive cracks. The shape of the black portion looks like the African continent, hence the name. __Climbing__ On satisfying long routes on off-vertical slabs, on black rock full of holds (sometimes fragile). Rock quality is not very good, with many loose portions. Routes need further cleaning from loose rock and vegetation, or a lot more traffic to improve. Don’t forget your helmets, and do not stand directly below your climber when belaying. __Gear__ A single 80m rope + 18 QDs. __Conditions__ Good for climbing in the morning on sunny winter days, or on cloudy days in spring and fall. Good also for a quick visit and climb in the shade in the afternoons. Avoid Africa when there is water in the river and/or the river waters rise. __Shade (Exposure: SE)__ After 16:00. __Kids__ No. The entire crag is dangerous because of falling rock.
