Hideout

Peloponnese, GR

__Hideout__ is a new sector approximately 12km north of Kyparissi (or 1hr south of Leonidio) next to the already established sector Kápsala. It is a stunning, slightly overhanging red wall full of colonettes, tufas, pockets, and other features rising above a well-concealed narrow ledge clinging on above the Myrtoan Sea. Hideout is also a very exposed, potentially scary sector, with a via ferrata approach and a narrow and exposed belay ledge. It is for experienced climbers only—but the quality is so good that all the work it took to develop it was absolutely worthwhile. __Climbing__ On 31 outstanding, onsight-friendly routes across a wide variety of grades (6a–7b), mostly on a slightly overhanging red wall with colonettes. It’s hard to believe, but there are routes up to 30m long with nearly all holds on colonettes and stalactites, and grades starting at just 6a! Hideout is a dream for routes from 6a–6c+, and nicely complements nearby sector Kápsala, which really shines in the 7a–7c range. Hideout took an immense amount of work to develop by Aris Theodoropoulos, Dimitris Titopoulos, Dimitra Klaoudatou, George Kopalides, and Katie Roussos in April/May 2019. The team plans to equip more routes here in the future, and possibly to connect sectors Hideout and Kápsala with a via ferrata. __Gear__ A single 80m rope + 20 QDs. Helmets mandatory. __Conditions__ Cool and shady. Best for spring, fall, and summer. __Shade (Exposure: E, NE)__ After 13:00. __Kids__ Never. Potentially dangerous for kids/families.
