Agios Petros Kákavo
Peloponnese, GR
__Kákavo__ is a beautiful, impressive cliff at an 820-meter altitude opposite a small village called Mesorachi. It’s on the side of a lush ravine surrounded by apple, chestnut, and other fruit and nut trees, as well as a small stream where water runs year-round. From the cliffs, you can even see Megali Tourla, the highest peak of Mount Parnon.
__Climbing__
On a long band of interconnected caves and walls featuring all styles of climbing: immaculate vertical grey walls alternating with caves with stalactites, overhangs, and roofs. At this writing, there are 43 routes from 6a–8b. The bolting is generally excellent and user-friendly, although some of the routes are brand-new and will benefit from traffic. There is potential for many more routes of all styles and grades.
__Gear__
A single 70m rope + 20 QDs.
__Conditions__
The ideal climbing season here is from late November until April, preferably on cloudy days (cliffs are in the sun most of the day). The cliffs may stay wet after intense rainfall, and in winter the area may be covered in snow, albeit more rarely.
__Shade (Exposure: S, SW)__
Until 12:00 at most of the cliff. The lines around the routes LEPOGA and TROGLODYTIS stay in the shade until 13:00 or 14:00; the red cave on the far right until 15:00.
__Kids__
OK.
