Beit-Chlela

North-Lebanon, LB

__BEIT CHLELA__ is the newest sector opened in Lebanon, by a team composed of French army officers, Michel & Pascale Matera, Jad El Khoury, George Emil and David Adams. It lies above the religious area where you can find a dirt and asphalt road leading to a parking. From there scramble up for 15 minutes to reach the cliff. __CLIMBING__ Vertical, slab and slightly overhanging rock. __GEAR__ 70 meters rope, 15 quickdraws. __CONDITIONS__ North faced sector, perfect for summer climbing with shade all day. Wet approach during rainy days but most of the cliff stays dry. __BEIT CHLELA HISTORY__ In autumn 2018, 4 French soldiers of the 27th mountain infantry brigade were on a visit to Lebanon to provide mountain trainings to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) when they crossed path with the developers (George Emil, Jad El Khoury, Michel Matera, Pascale Matera) in Tannourine while looking for a suitable cliff to bolt and this has flourished into one successful crag which is Beit Chlela. Discussions were initiated with the municipality of Beit Chlela after the initiative led by Michel and Pascale Matera to highlight that a climbing sector could add to the value of an area based on the example of its neighboring town of Tannourine El Tahta. After some grueling work to open a trail (efforts done by the municipality of Beit Chlela) in order to reach the steep hills that leads to this three-dimensional tufa littered cliff, the first routes were set- up and two sectors were opened (the Hangover sector and the Maya sector). Being a north-faced cliff, this crag turned out to be one of the best summer destinations since it lies in the shade all day until the late afternoon, added to the fact that it offers an immense potential for more routes of all grades.
