Beit-Mery

Mount-Lebanon, LB

__“Der el Kalaa”__ sector is a bouldering and sport climbing crag. First developed as a bouldering spot, it now has 38 climbing routes. Being 15 kilometers from Beirut makes it one of the best spots for when you do not want to drive a lot or after- work sessions. Disclaimer: This crag lies on a private land, therefore climbers need to be mindful of crag etiquette (no camping, and leave no trace). __CLIMBING__ Vertical, slab and slightly overhanging rock. Short technical boulder routes. __GEAR__ 60 meters rope is enough as the routes are short, 12 quickdraws. Trad gear in case you would like to climb the trad routes. __CONDITIONS__ East facing sector at around 650 meters above sea level, good for all seasons as even in summer the sectors are in the shade as of 12h30 pm. __BEIT MERY HISTORY__ Thew first climbing done in Beit mery can be traced to the late nineties and early 2000s when locals like Peter Abi Aoun, Adoni Maalouf, Aoun Abi Aoun and Gilbert Moukheiber were toproping and trad climbing some of the cracks around the cliff. Fast forward to 2007 when climbers like Jad El Khoury and Marc Germani started bouldering on the numerous blocks scattered below the cliff when bouldering was barely practiced in the country. In 2015 the first route in the crag (Hook or die 6b) was bolted by Jad El Khoury and paved the way for the upcoming development efforts of 2018 and 2019. In 2018, Jad supported by Michel Matera opened the first three sectors of the crag which soon became one of the most frequented sectors in Lebanon due to its proximity to Beirut. The development efforts continued throughout 2019 with the support of Jakob Farah to open 3 more sectors which offers until the end of 2019, 37 climbing routes from different grades and 1 hard open project.
