Bausu

Liguria, IT

The Bausu was the first big climbing area in the valley to be regularly visited by climbers. The first people to bolt routes were stimulated by the beauty of the place and the quality of the rock. Claudio Laureri and Fulvio Balbi, who bolted the first routes during the years ‘91 and ‘92, picked out the nicest lines on offer some of which are also multi pitch routes. Today the Bausu houses about 110 routes, mostly in the 6th grade and always on optimum quality grey-reddish compact limestone. The climbing style is different from the bottom of the valley; here one climbs on slabs and vertical walls, or slightly overhanging walls with the main emphasis on fingers and a lot of foot work. This is an old style, which continues to be very popular, as can be seen by the fact that after 15 years of life this cliff is still one of the most visited of the valley.
