Belove stene

Kvarner, HR

Belove stene have a lot of potential and a long approach. Well, even the current selection is not bad, especially for hedonists and beginners, who want a little more peace than in Portafortuna. Otherwise, this is a nicely equipped, mostly summer crag, where you should come without pressure, to get some climbing mileage done. The crag is situated in idyllic surroundings under the highest point of Krk - Obzovo. It was opened in spring of 2011. To the right of sector E the bolting is currently forbidden, although there is the desire and potential. The crag was named after the legend of king Bela IV, who fled to the island, to the vicinity of the crag, from Mongols, who terrorized the mainland. They retreated after a year, after raping and pillaging everything that was available. But the legend goes differently. Sup- posedly they followed king Bela to the coast, where the sea stopped them, as they couldn't swim. So they slaughtered a flock of sheep and made floating bladders for swimming and started to cross the water. People on Krk lit the bonfires and prayed to god, who sent a terrible storm upon Mongols, drowning most of them or crashing them against the rocks. Even today the fishermen say, that they find bones of the drowned army in their nets and around Senj a hellish Bora wind still blows often.
