Eros

Kalymnos, GR

Eros is a a gigantic limestone amphitheater with parts of the cliff rising to 70 meters high. It is home to some outstanding routes, alongside dazzling sea views. If you set out to climb at nearby sector Irox but arrive to find it too crowded, walk another 10 minutes up to Eros instead. You will be glad you did! A massive amphitheater over the sea. Smooth rock, vertical technical climbs, and gym-style pumpy routes coexist in harmony. __Busy__ 1/3 __Climbing__ On overhanging and pumpy gym-style routes in the middle; on vertical or slightly overhanging and technical routes on the right and left sides. The sector’s popularity got a great boost when Claude Idoux added 12 quality long lines (32–40m) from 6a to 6c around 2013, because until that point there were no moderate grades at Eros. Recently, the small sub-sector Hocki Klocki was created on the right to include four routes in a shady mini-cave and unusual rock reminiscent of a 3-D puzzle. __Conditions__ Cool and shady. Good even for summer climbing, but not on very hot or humid days: the rock can feel soapy and greasy. __Shade (Exposure: NE)__ After 12:00 at the main cliff; all day at Hocki Klocki. __Kids__ There is a natural balcony at the base of the cliffs, which may be suitable for kids. Note that if you plan to bring kids along, the best way is to take the boat to sector Irox (Option 3 below) and walk from there. __Hocki Klocki__ is a more recent addition around the corner to the right of the main cliff. At this writing, there is only a handful of routes in a mini cave that stays in the shade all day. The unusual rock brings to mind a 3-D puzzle.
