North Cape

Kalymnos, GR

North Cape is a pleasant and peaceful crag. It is rarely crowded, in contrast with Odyssey, which sits across the hillside and is often crowded. North Cape features a long south-facing wall with small interconnected caves and yellow-grey slabs of very good quality, if sometimes sharp. Moreover, the cliff is easy and quick to approach from the road. The drawback? It comes into the sun early. In addition to the main crag there are three small sub-sectors to look for in the app: Apollo, Peter, and Little Italy. On the hillside opposite Odyssey, a long sharp wall with small interconnected caves. __Busy__ 1/3 __Climbing__ Varied climbing on steep slabs and walls alongside two short but worthwhile caves. There are typical sharp grey slabby and delicate routes, walls with chickenheads and occasionally prickly holds, steep routes on rock with beautiful features, small stalactites, and tufa pipes, and extremely powerful bouldery overhangs and roofs. __Conditions__ Hot, sunny, and very exposed to the elements and the wind. The sun comes around early. The two caves are the only parts offering protection from the rain. __Shade (Exposure: S, SW)__ Until 11:00 (until 13:00 in the upper cave). __Kids__ Not very good, except near Helios Cave.
