Ostrovica

Dalmatia, HR

The Sports Climbing Club "Paklenica" has done an amazing job constructing a trail and fixing the crag, which is divided into 4 sectors. The crag offers a magnificent view and is situated at the base of the Orlovaca peak, which is at an elevation of 405 meters. Sectors 1, 2 and 3 have routes that are up to 13 meters high, with climbing routes that are mostly of easier grades. On the right part of the crag (sector 4), the rock is much higher, reaching up to 35 meters, with more challenging routes. The rock is mainly limestone and is compact. However, in sector 4, there is also a layer of conglomerate, which has lower quality and compactness in places. Hence, climbers are advised to exercise caution. The rock is oriented towards the south and southwest, making it ideal for climbing from October to June. However, during the summer months, climbing becomes difficult due to the lack of shade. Once on the crag, you will be greeted with a beautiful view of the picturesque monolithic limestone tower. The view from the climbing area extends further to the spacious fertile fields near the village of Ostrovica, Lake Vrana, and the islands of the Šibenik water area. According to historical records, the Ostrovica fortress was once located on that tower but was destroyed in the 17th century.
