Bast

Dalmatia, HR

Mount Biokovo, actually part of a mountain range, is the highest mountain in Dalmatia and the second highest in Croatia – it rises to 1,762 metres at its highest point. The part of the mountain that is best for visiting (as it has been designed for this purpose) is the area designated as Biokovo Nature Park. Biokovo is very suitable for walking and hiking, with Vosac peak (1,422m) only 1.8 miles from Makarska city centre (on a well-signposted route). From Vošac, it takes two hours along another well-marked path to Sveti Jure (St. George), the highest peak in the area at 1,762 metres. There are fantastic views of the Croatian coastline and its islands from Biokovo – on clear days, even parts of Bosnia and Italy (across the Adriatic Sea) can be seen. So it is not a secret that this mountain truly is an enormous potential for sport and multi-pitch climbing and that we scratched only the surface of his true potential. Brela crag is located at the south side of mountain Biokovo, and it can be categorized as slab and vertical climbing on routes from 10 to 15 meters. There is also natural spring that comes from the mountain, green meadow, table and benches, great view on the Adriatic sea and surrounding peaks of Mountain Biokovo provides great crag for families and peaceful day in nature. With the help of the local tourism board, crag Bast was made by local climbers, mostly by Igor Šupić. There aren't many routes, but the rock is good quality, and its position makes this crag worth a visit.
