Terradets

Catalonia, ES

To the connoisseur of fine hard sport climbing the name Terradets needs little introduction. In actual fact its fame probably heralds from just one sector, Paret de les Bruixes (the Witches Wall) and even though the more popular routes are becoming rather polished, this is still regarded as one of the best crags anywhere in Europe and a veritable nirvana for those operating in the eighth grade. Thanks to its westerly orientation climbing is possible at ‘Les Bruixes’ throughout the year, from shady summer mornings to sunny winter afternoons, although seepage can be a problem after heavy rains. This mighty gorge has far more to offer, however, than just one cliff: the north-facing sectors of Regina and La Pizarra provide further high standard tufa-grappling, while Els Isards and Si Fas Free No Fa Fred give excellent middle grade face climbing on superb compact rock. Two more sectors — the impressively steep walls of Clot Fondo and the superbly positioned Clot de Miquí (El Doll), which is actually situated approximately halfway between Terradets and Camarasa, further expand the options here. Terradets is also home to a wealth of multi-pitch outings and the magnificent trio of Paret de les Bagasses, El Peladet and Roca Regina offer routes up to 600m in length, catering for a wide range of skill-levels and tastes in adventure. However, these fall beyond the scope of this sport-climbing guidebook.
