Ben Corr

Ireland West, IE

Carrot Ridge vies with Howling Ridge in Kerry (see page 95) for the title of best mountain route in Ireland. The ridge runs up the left hand side of a huge quartzite wall on the south face of Ben Corr in the Twelve Bens, Connemara. It’s a popular route and much like Howling could be considered either an easy climb or a hard scramble. The rock is clean and for the most part sound with abundant holds. The stepped ridge stands proud of the surrounding rock and the line is obvious if a little escapable in places. The Main Face to the right has two dozen routes but the only one that receives any attention is the 330m VS Seventh Heaven which has something of a reputation for tricky route finding, scant protection and committing climbing.
