Erto is among the classic climbing crags not only of the Veneto but of all of Italy. Erto is the result of the futuristic visions of Mauro Corona, Sandro Neri, Iccio Dall’omo and Gigi Dapozzo. They had already sensed that something very interesting could be realized on these overhangs. Erto is a meeting point for locals and non-locals and really tests the mettle of all of them. It is divided into two big sectors namely Big and No Big and one can find routes from the 3b to the 8c+ by The big Mother.
It is impossible to talk about Erto without mentioning the tragedy of October 1963. A landslide of Mount Toc collapsed into the artificial lake which is surrounded by a dam. Thousands of people lost their lives that evening in Erto, Casso and Longarone.
From the parking lot walk to the crag.
-From Cortina drive in the direction of Venezia and Belluno to the locality Longarone whereas from Belluno drive to the north or in the direction of Cortina. In Longarone follow the signs indicating Erto and the Vajont dam. Drive up this road for a few kilometres through several tunnels after a traffic light. After the tunnels continue up for a short while until you see the orange roofs on the left side. You can park the car on one of the parking lots intended mainly for the use of the visitors of the dam. -From the region Friuli you can follow as an alternative the road ascending from Claut and drive past Erto to the dam.
