Cave
Kalymnos, GR
Sector Cave has a lot going for it: there is a small yet distinctive cave slotted with big pockets and vertical walls with easier routes on each side; the cliff is very close to the road; on the left side of the main cave is the entrance to underworld, a deep underground cave decorated with stalactites and accessed via two ladders behind an iron gate; and, last but not least, two new and very interesting sub-sectors (Sevasti and Sevasti Big Face) were added as recently as 2022.
A small pocketed cave near the road, and easier vertical walls on the sides. Good vertical routes, longer shade at new sub-sector.
__Busy__ 1/3
__Climbing__
On overhanging, hard sport routes with tufa blobs and big pockets as well as interesting—if sharp—grey slabs (Cave Main). Vertical/slightly overhanging walls with small holds (Far Left, Upper). A long multi-pitch (Sevasti Big Face). Quality vertical rock with long, satisfying climbs full of pockets and features (Sevasti).
__Conditions__
Warm. Protected from the north wind, but not the rain. Don’t try the central hard routes on humid days!
__Shade (Exposure: SW)__
Until 12:00 at _Far Left_, until 12:30 at _Main (right)_ and _Upper_, until 14:00 at _Main (cave)_ and _Sevasti Big Face_, until 16:00 at _Sevasti_.
__Kids__
OK, but not great. There is loose rock at parts.
__Sevasti__ is a new, very worthwhile northwest-facing crag. Long routes with grades ranging from easy to moderately hard (5c to 7a+) are on vertical or slightly overhanging rock of excellent quality, full of pockets and other interesting features. Extra bonus: shade!
