Sea Breeze

Kalymnos, GR

From its convenient location near the road over Arginonta Bay, Sea Breeze includes several sub-sectors with trademark yellow/grey walls and steeply inclined slabs. Ease of access and an abundance of low and middle grades makes this a very popular crag all year round, despite the fact that the cliff is warm and best suited to cold-weather climbing. Steep grey slabs, some smaller crags with sharp walls, and a new sub-sector with short overhanging routes and longer shade. __Busy__ 2/3 __Climbing__ Mostly face climbing, and very pleasant. In 2021, an interesting new sector, Apache Gorge, was developed higher up. And Pocket Wall was enriched with numerous long extension pitches in the 6b–7a range. __Conditions__ Sunny, warm, and best for winter climbing. __Shade (Exposure: S)__ In the morning. Check each sub-sector for specifics. _White Wine Wall_ Until 11:00 and again after 18:00 _Great Canyon_ Until 13:00 (routes inside the cave have shade almost all day) _Pocket Wall_ Until 12:30 _Sea Breeze Main (rigth & right) & Apache Gorge (Main)_ Until 10:30 _Apache Gorge (Wall, Cave)_ Until 13:00 (Wall) or until 12:00 (Cave) __Kids__ Only at Pocket Wall and Sea Breeze Main. __White Wine Wall__ is actually a grey wall. It is compact, with an interesting multi-pitch on the left side, in addition to a small and steep orange cave featuring short routes on colonettes and jugs. All routes except tropfen and regensburg were equipped by Luca Salsotto in 2016. __Great Canyon__ is home to good slabs and walls, as well as a small steep cave on the right-hand side. All routes were bolted by Claude and Yves Remy in 2011. __Pocket Wall__ is a grey/red wall with good pockets and a steep, compact grey slab on the right. Routes are tight, but there is a good choice of grades. Climbing is thin and technical on small holds, and some pitches are impressively long, including some recently bolted extensions in the 6b–7a range. __Sea Breeze Main__ includes an easy pillar, a featured grey/orange vertical wall, and a low-angle slab. Expect mostly face climbing on good holds, chickenheads, gouttes d’eau, and some very long pitches. __Apache Gorge Main__ is well-protected against the wind. On the left, a short but heavily overhanging face with solid tufas and excellent, pumpy, athletic climbing. On the right, a vertical/slightly overhanging wall with longer climbs. Unless otherwise noted, all routes were bolted by Jara Tiser in 2021 with names inspired by Winnetou, Karl May’s legendary fictional Apache chieftain. __Apache Wall__ is an orange and grey vertical/slightly overhanging wall with all kinds of holds. Apache Cave offers pleasant climbing, sometimes sharp, with a compact outer slab and wall to its right. There is potential for more hard routes inside the cave.
