Monte Pietravecchia

Liguria, IT

The southeast cliff of the east buttress of the Monte Pietravecchia is without doubt the most interesting cliff (up to now) of the area. It is one of the new areas kept secret by the local climbers and is finally unveiled in this guidebook. Climbing is at almost 1800 metres of altitude in an alpine environment typical for the Ligurian Alps on vertical limestone of real beauty. Mario Innino and Fabio Palazzo placed the first bolts on the Spigolo dei Migliori. The first route, which leads all the way to the top of the cliff was however Altavista and with this route the climbing team formed by the alpine guides Lorenzo Cavanna and Marco Clemenzi made their entrance. Thanks to them some of the nicest routes were put up.These include some real jewels like Urlando Furioso which for the quality of rock rivals with the better known routes of the mountain Mongioie. They will guarantee Pietravecchia an entry in the map of not only Ligurian fans of multi pitch routes. Numerous open projects are found on the cliffs, which are close to being finished and surely many other will follow on this as well as on its neighbouring cliffs.
